[ Age ] 29

[ Height ] 172cm

[ Weight ] a lady never tells her weight!

[ Medical Info ] Physically perfectly healthy, though prone to stress headaches/migraines. She's broken bones before, but nothing that affects her badly now. Otherwise she suffers from severe depression and anxiety.

[ Birthday ] May 31

[ Eyes ] dark brown

[ Hair ] dark brown

[ Physical traits ] Tall and very pretty, usually very nicely dressed in high-end business-type gear. Although she's being taken from manga canon, I am shallow and enjoy her prettypretty drama actress better so she gets drama icons :X She will definitely come off as the stern, serious type, and fairly hard to approach.

[ What's Okay To Mention Around Him/Her ] She comes from a perfectly normal place where perfectly normal things happen. She'll probably tell you magic and demons and stuff are fake. She is extremely self-conscious about her height (she's been picked on about it for like, ever), and she has absolutely no interest in men that aren't taller, more successful, and better educated than she is (unless you are Momo).

[ Abilities ] She's practiced Aikidou since she was a little girl, so she's pretty good at that. She speaks fluent Japanese and English, and . . . sketchy Mandarin. Otherwise she's an excellent journalist? She graduated from Tokyo University, and spent time studying abroad at Harvard, so she's pretty darn smart. She's also pretty good at video games.

[ Notes for the Psychics ] She has a lot of self-esteem issues and depressed depressed depresssseeedd. Complete emotional mess (but getting a little better). She's prone to daydreaming, though; particularly about Momo. He's probably on her mind 90% of the time. Extremely reliant and co-dependent on Momo.

[ Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc? ] Please, give me a heads up. She's likely to respond very badly to it, either by physically kicking the snot out of you, or by having an emotional breakdown once she's somewhere by herself.

[ Maim/Murder/Death ] No, please. Sumire-chan stays alive. Momo would be very unhappy.

[ Hugging/kissing/other non-violent physical contact ] Unless she knows you reasonably well, she's likely to punch and/or throw you if you try (especially if you are a dude). Shaking hands is okay, though. Only Momo gets hugs and kisses.

[ Cooking ] She's actually a really good cook! And can cook all sorts of delicious things.

Character: Iwaya Sumire
Series: Kimi wa Pet (Tramps Like Us)
Character Age: 29
Job: CFUD Lifestyle Correspondent

Canon: Life as a successful journalist isn't easy for Iwaya Sumire. Being a tall, well-educated career woman gives the men in her life--co-workers and lovers alike--inferiority complexes, and women tend to be jealous of her success. After a breakup with her cheating boyfriend and a demotion at her job, she returns home one evening to find a box in the street. Inside that box is a bruised and bloody young man, whom she decides to bring into her home to clean up and feed. When she later asks the young man to leave, he decides he likes being there, and asks to stay. She eventually agrees, but on one condition: he'll become her pet, and have no basic human rights, all in exchange for food and board. He surprisingly agrees, and asks her to name him whatever she wants. She decides on "Momo", as he reminds her of the dog she had as a child. As time goes on, the human-pet relationship becomes strained, and Sumire struggles not to let Momo become more than just a pet . . .

Sumire tends to come off as the stoic, dedicated, hardworking type, and this is the face the majority sees. Though she tries to keep up a strong and capable front, in actuality she suffers from severe depression, anxiety, and loneliness, to the point where her private life is a complete mess and she's essentially a chain smoking wreck. She has trouble being honest with her feelings and admitting when there's a problem, and relies heavily on Momo as her emotional support--he is literally the only person she can be "herself" around, whether in happiness or sadness; someone who loves her and whom she can love unconditionally. Inwardly shy, awkward, and quite self-conscious (particularly about her height), she tends to feel out of her element in most social situations and in many cases will simply avoid going out if she can. With Momo by her side, she is far more relaxed; able to play videogames or watch pro wrestling, joke around, or simply spend the evening snuggling.

Note: She's being taken from the later volumes of the manga, where she has quit her job at the newspaper and is working freelance. In addition, her squishy, vulnerable side is kept well-hidden save for a small number of people, so she'll come off as mostly business.

Sample Entry:

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
My name is Iwaya Sumire. I graduated from Tokyo University with a degree in journalism, and I have been gainfully employed since graduation. I am currently working as a freelance journalist after having spent several years as both a correspondent and editor for a well-read newspaper in the External Affairs and Lifestyle departments. I live alone with a single pet, Momo, with whom I spend most of my free time.

Why are you joining our happy community?
As I have an expansive portfolio of well-received articles and speak fluent English, I was asked by my previous employer if I would be willing to spend some time on temporary assignment for a special Foreign Lifestyles section they plan to run. It is my intention to spend my time at CFUD studying the daily lives of the residents and compose several feature-length weekly articles.

What is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
The official title I’ve been given is CFUD Lifestyle Correspondent. This entails investigating the customs and regular "day in the life" happenings of CFUD's residents. My aim is to give the readers a taste of something different, while at the same time displaying the similarities between cultures. I have heard that although daily life in CFUD is not the most eventful, there does appear to be a strange fixation with cephalopods . . .

Do you have a five year plan in mind?
I plan on going as far as journalism will take me, be it in Japan or abroad. I have taken particular interest in the performance arts, more specifically modern dance, and intend to eventually write reviews and interview performers from around the world. Though marriage in the future is a possibility, I do not plan on leaving my career behind to do so and, in that event, will balance both my work and home life as necessary.

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
I would save the dog. A pet is innocent and deserving of the care of its owner, regardless of its actions. He is someone that will love and follow a person anywhere, unconditionally; a constant, loyal presence that can be trusted without hesitation. He is a warm, faithful companion who can be counted on at any time, day or night, to provide comfort and affection. Even when he demands to be shampooed and leaves his things all over the apartment and refuses to get out of my bed when he's not allowed in there--wait, why can't I erase that?

A dog has little control over their actions, and can be trained not to repeat them. A criminal chose his or her method of personal conduct of their own accord, and there is no guarantee that they will not repeat their unlawful endeavors in the future.
